So I'm cleaning this pool the other day and it's one of my favorites really. I love this pool, it has all kind of great landscapes around it with cool rocks, and a few water falls to add to the scenery. It truly is one of my favorites. And here I was cleaning away, making sure that I get every last bit of the pool dust that was collecting on the sweep out where the stairs come into the wall area on the deep end. And boom! Out comes this dead rat floating from the edge. Yuck! I can't believe rats like the swimming pools here in Redding. They act like there is no other water around when we've had such a wet season and all. Funny, I had to go grab my net, fetch the stinky slimy rat out, toss it into the field nearby, soak my net in bleach, clean my hands with sanitizer, then test the water for any bacteria, nope clear! Then I "over shocked" the pool with a good dosage of chlorine just in case my H20 testing kit missed something. Phew! Twenty minutes later I was scrubbing again and this time with a bit of extra caution. Well, poor rat, I wonder if he just thought it was a nice pool too! I often get phone calls from internet leads and their first question is always the same, "How much does it cost for pool service?" And my answer is always the same: There are three different things that change the variable of service cost. 1. How many trees do you have overhanging your swimming pool? This is a very important factor to think about when having a pool. Why? because leaves make a lot of work for us pool guys. Especially in the fall when we are no longer the pool guys but the pool leaf crew. Ha! Also, another thing to consider with trees is that they eat up your chlorine, wear down your pump, and are hard on your plaster and filters due to all of the organic material that leafs carry. 2. Where are you located? This is always a determining factor. If you live way out in the country you are likely to have an increase in visit fees. 3. How big is your pool? A 40k pool is much more time consuming than a 10k pool. So I'll ask those questions and then tell them depending on those factors you're looking at between $70 - $100 per month + chems. Hope this helps in answering your question of how much pool service is in the Redding California area. See you outside! Joshua Due to all of the abandoned houses nation wide... Scrub Them Walls 10/31/2008
Just a friendly reminder to all of you swimming pool owners...Remember to use a scrub brush on those walls and steps in your pool. If you don't, algae will sneak up on you in no time. Don't think you can slide through the winter and let em go...Brushing is easy when you do it at least once a week. Start at the shallow end with the stairs and then the brush all around the walls, shallow floor end as well. Remember that all of your brushing strokes are to be moved towards the deep end of the pool where the main drain is. Continue on around your pool until you have completely brushed out all of your walls around the deep end too. This will keep your water oxidized and your algae growth down to a minimum come spring time. Green Free Pool Forever??? 10/22/2008
